When we have a great number of choices, we often get confused about which one is the right choice and often end up making the wrong choice. In the game of browsers, Microsoft has launched a new player called Edge. Through his article, we will help you decide which browser is best for you according to your needs. #TWN

There has always been a joke that floats around, ” Internet Explorer is the best browser to download other web browsers.” With the launch of Edge, Microsoft browsers are again gaining popularity, but the question arises, is it worth leaving chrome and switching to edge? The latest version of the Edge has been rebuilt using chromium source code developed by Google. Microsoft Edge was first released in 2015 for windows 10, and Xbox and the latest version was released in 2022 for windows 11. Let’s look at the features of the latest Microsoft Edge.

Features of Edge

Drag multiple items into the collection- While browsing a website with a list of products, you can now highlight and drag those products and add them to your desired collection to assess them later.

Bargain Shopper: This feature will enhance your shopping experience. This feature is going to save you a lot of time and money. A price tag will pop up in your address bar. This tag will redirect you to a flyout, which will show you the best offers, coupons, and prices available for that product.

Taskbar pinning wizard: This feature will help you with easy and quick access to your favorite website by pinning them into your taskbar. This feature also includes a suggestion bot that will suggest up to 6 websites based on your search history. If you don’t have enough search data, this feature will suggest to you the most popular websites.

Import from Google Chrome: If you are an existing chrome user, you can import Tabs and settings from chrome, and hence you can enjoy all the features of Edge without compromising your chrome experience.

Extensions: Just like chrome, you can add extensions in the edge also to enhance your browsing experience. Apart from popular extensions like ad blockers and password managers, you can also add extensions from external sources by allowing extensions from other stores on the extension page.

Password Monitor: Password monitor uses a repository of known compromised credentials to notify you whenever your password is no longer safe to use, hence providing you the surety of safe and smooth browsing.

Microsoft Reward: This feature was provided to you in the bing browser. Whenever you used bing for browsing, you received some reward points. This feature has now been added to the Edge browser. These points could be used to receive gift cards, sweepstake entry, subscriptions, and non-profit donations through Microsoft Give mode. Right now, this feature is only available for the U.S.A, Canada, U.K., France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and Australia, but Microsoft is working on launching this feature in every country.

These were the key features of the Microsoft Edge. Apart from them, Edge also has some additional features like Vertical Tabs, Access to PDF files, Improved browser history search, which ensure your smooth and safe browsing experience.

Is Edge Actually a Better Choice?

With so many features, the Edge is no doubt a brilliant browser, but is Edge worth it? Should you consider switching to Edge from your current browser? Let’s find out.

When it comes to internet browsers, Google Chrome is an absolute beast. It dominates other browsers by owning almost 67% of the market. The main reason for its dominance is that it is open to all sources of extensions, but now even Edge is also based on the same chromium platform. It means all your favorite extensions are now also available on the Edge browser. But this is a good reason to switch. If I am already enjoying these features, why should I switch? Let’s look at some other criteria that provide Edge an edge.

  • Privacy: We know that Chrome is always collecting our data to show us personalized ads, and hence, we cannot call it the idol browser for keeping your data private. Microsoft’s business model is different and is not entirely focused on ads. Therefore with the edge, it is easier to configure the privacy level of your browser. You choose between three data tracking prevention levels, namely Basic, Balanced, and Strict, and help you maintain a secure browsing experience.
  • Performance: Although it cannot be concluded which browser is performing better in terms of page loading speeds, a feature like Stay in Sync (which allows easy transfer of your data within your devices) adds up to the performance of the browser. Other features like Efficiency Mode allow you to use your Internet data and Battery efficiently. You can even continue your search if you switch devices in between.
  • Productivity: Edge even provides you with tools that benefit you in your productivity. Tools like immersive reader help you with a cleaner and simpler view, which makes reading easy. While reading an article, you can access the feature “Read out loud,” which will read the article for you. Hence, allowing you to save time and browse multiple tabs at the same time, you can also draw and erase your PDFs. Just open your pdf in your browser, and you will be able to correct or add notes to your PDFs.
  • Shopping Experience: Features like Bargain shopper enhance your shopping experience by providing you with the best price of the product you are searching for. It also helps you discover all the coupon codes and discounts available for your product. Other features like price history allow you to track whether the product’s price has risen, fallen, or has remained stable and also inform you when the product will be at its lowest, hence, contributing to your savings with every purchase.

Conclusion

Humans tend to follow the trend, we feel safe in a group, and often we follow the masses, but just because the majority is following it doesn't mean that the thing has to be right. The same goes with the browsers. Just because 67% of people are on Chrome, that does not make it the best browser available. I have covered all the major features of Edge and what features differentiate it from other browsers available. Now it’s totally upon you to decide which browser to use cause I don’t want to force my opinion on you. However, if you ask for my personal choice, I prefer Edge because of its privacy and data breaching policy and features like Bargain Shopping. So, Chrome might be the people’s choice, but Edge could be the next step in the innovation of the browsers.
