Talent in a workplace refers to the entire workforce. The usage of this term alludes to the notion that each employee brings a certain skill to the table, which qualifies as their talent. In essence, the definition does not seem too far from the literal definition, however, talent in business has many more implications than just its definition.

This term is increasingly being used in workplaces, so much so that some companies have positions such as Chief Talent Officer and Vice President of Talent Acquisition. While it might seem slightly frivolous of a job to old school business persons. However, in large businesses such as corporations, these positions ensure that there is a good foundation on which the company is expanded. Any business needs skilled workers for each role and proper recruitment is where it stems from.

The three functions of the Human Resources Department, in regards to talent

the acquisition can be described as follows:

Talent Acquisition: This can be viewed as the first step in the whole process. It refers to attracting people on the lookout for a job and recruiting them after a series of tests of their skills and abilities. This will be useful to provide suitable jobs to the individuals and will lead to a smooth working system.

Talent Management: The second step along the way, is the process of managing employees that have already been recruited through Skill Development, Personal Development, and Check-ins. To ensure that everything is smooth sailing post talent acquisition. Skill improvement of employees will not only benefit them but will improve the quality of the work they do as well. It will have a positive impact on the business and will lead it towards growth.

Talent Pools: Talent pools are a database of people who were maybe not selected for a certain role, but the Human Resource team deems a good fit for a position that might be coming up. Essentially, candidates can be a good fit for future recruitment.

The entire process of talent cycles in business only highlights its importance. While new hiring for positions related to talent can be a cost to the company. However, in the grand scheme of things, it is more of an investment than a cost that brings about long-term, sustainable changes in the make-up of the company.
