Every youngster can relate to these small talks that led up to great conversations over a cup of coffee. A 90’s youngster and the coming generation knew what they talk about over a cup of coffee. Even in sleep or fully awake, if asked about a coffee, you will automatically name CCD or Café Coffee Day. In this article, I will tell you the history and some of the unknown facts about a coffee brand that rules every young heart of the country. CCD made its way to the hearts of thousands of Indians, be it a remote area or a bustling city. It is the reason for the rise of CCD and the experience you have at one of their outlets. One biggest achievement it has over other rivals is that you will get the same taste of your coffee no matter where you have it in the entire country! You will feel the same taste on your taste buds and aroma you had back in your city.

The success of Café Coffee Day is known globally, but the struggle and story behind success are what we want to deliver to you. Café Coffee Day or CCD was founded in 1996. The founder was an Indian businessman who goes by the name of Veerappa Gangaiah Siddhartha Hegde. His vision and awareness made CCD what it is today. V. G. Siddhartha was an exceptional man who even served on the board of directors in many business ventures like GTV, Mindtree, Liqwid Krystal, Way2Wealth, Way2Wealth Securities, and Coffee Day Natural Resources.

From Kashmir to Kanyakumari and from Gujarat to Assam, you can find a café coffee day outlet anywhere. It was the vision that made Siddhartha Sir bring a coffee café into our lives. Let’s talk about some fun facts about the café we love and adore as youngsters and 90’s kids, now adults.

  1. The first-ever outlet was opened on July 11, 1996. Total investment in the first outlet was 1.5 crore. The outlet was opened in one of the busiest localities of Bangalore. It was at the Brigades Road. Apart from being a coffee café, CCD offered free internet to their customers. It was a reason for the boost of the company. Internet was a luxury back then, and getting it along with a cup of coffee was such a treat to have for a 90’s kid.
  2. In 2010, Café Coffee Day redesigned its logo and changed the interior. This new logo and interior upgrade were all possible after the investment of INR 10 billion were done in Coffee Day Resorts, owned by the parent company. This investment was needed to boost the company to build new coffee outlets and expand the chain.
  3. Do you know why the logo looks like a cup and comma? It denotes that a coffee outlet can be a place where you can have coffee and talk about anything you want. Like a lounge or a bar, you can relax and hang out in a coffee café. CCD wanted to convey that it can be a place that can be used as a fun hangout place for the urban and aspirational youth of this country. That is how a coffee café made its place in the hearts of the youngsters, assuring the youth that all they can think of is a cup of coffee and a happening place to talk their hearts out.
  4. Like every successful company, CCD has very interesting taglines that go perfectly with the logo and the idea behind the café. ‘A lot can happen over coffee’ is a perfect tagline for a coffee outlet. There is a message this tagline conveys. It makes you feel the warmth of CCD and how a perfectly brewed cup of coffee can cast its magic on you. In today’s time, you can easily spend hours in a CCD outlet talking about things and sipping coffee.
  5. Do you know how many cups of coffee it serves every year? Around 1.8 billion cups of coffee and that too in six countries. Yes, you read it right! Our desi coffee brand has expanded in other nations also. CCD has its functional outlets in Austria, Malaysia, Nepal, Egypt, and the Czech Republic.
  6. As of today, CCD has more than 1,843 outlets. You will find a CCD outlet in every city, even at the remotest place. From Kashmir to the Andaman Islands, you can find the same taste of your coffee.
  7. The coffee you drink comes from the coffee estate owned by the CCD group. Approximately 20,000 acres of land is used as a coffee estate. They grow mainly three varieties of coffee beans – Arabica, Dark Forest & Robusta. With this plantation, CCD is the largest coffee exporter in Asia, and they primarily export Arabica coffee beans globally.
  8. To look after the coffee estate, CCD has local tribal people who work for them. The company takes good care of them, they provided them with hospital facilities and have schools for their children. CCD even provided tribal people with electricity.
  9. The company is a genius in cost-cutting strategies. CCD has its coffee machines and furniture self-made by the company and is used in every outlet. This strategy allowed the public to have a good coffee at a very affordable price.

CCD will stay a happening place for the youngster in the coming years, and many bright ideas will be discussed in one of its outlets. As long as coffee will be loved in this nation, CCD will be there to fulfill that urge. Our desi coffee café!
