As the conversation over toxic workplace conditions becomes increasingly heated, more people are speaking up for what they believe they are entitled to. Workers are holding large protests around the world to express their dissatisfaction with the severe working conditions that have long been promoted as the only way to success.  For long billionaires and industrialists have fetishized working hard and getting underpaid in the name of a 'success pathway' and people have been easily fooled into buying this glass dream.

But slowly the glass has shattered into small pieces and people are realizing that this 'work hard' formula is a way for big corporations to exploit their workers. Recently workers in China took to the streets to show their anger towards the 996 work culture. It expects workers to work from 9 am to 9 pm for 6 days of the week. Now people don't want to exhaust themselves and have no life outside their professional milieu.

But there have been many companies in the past that have had great working conditions for their employees. These companies accepted that a happy and healthy employee can perform well; hence increasing the profits. Let's learn about 5 such companies that gave great working conditions to their employees and set an example for others to follow.

1. Microsoft-

Microsoft proved to be a great example for other big corporations to follow during the pandemic. The COVID-19 pandemic left everything under lockdown and while many companies let go of employees or cut their salaries substantially; Microsoft paid all its contract workers even when most of its outlets were shut due to the lockdown. This is the true entrepreneurial spirit that we need more examples of.

2. JP Morgan Chase-

This international banking service became one of the first companies to disclose its non-whites to whites pay ratio. As we towards a more inclusive future, the conversations around equality and inclusivity have become mainstream. Now people are demanding that companies hire people from all identities. This includes the hiring of non-whites. While most companies hide their pay grade for whites and non-whites, JP Morgan Chase revealed it. The company has narrowed the gap between the pay scale of whites to non-whites.

3. Intel-

As with JP Morgan Chase, Intel has also revealed all their data about the company salary in terms of seniority, gender, and race. The company has disclosed a complete breakdown of the salaries it pays to its employees. The data also reveals that the company has enforced equal gender pay across borders in all its branches.

4. General Motors-

General Motors has always been ahead of other companies in terms of bringing gender equality and issues related to gender in their workplace. GM has enforced a strict equal pay policy to men and women across the board and has also made gender representation a huge priority. Apart from all this, the company has also talked a lot about sexual violence in the workplace.

5. NVIDIA-

NVIDIA has been at the forefront of promoting a healthy 'work-life' balance. The company has an excellent policy in place that priorities healthy working conditions for their employees. The company offers 12 weeks' leave for new parents and subsidized child-care.
