News Synopsis

The Pune-based Giripremi, which made history when its 10 climbers unfurled the National Tricolor on Mt. Kanchenjunga, the third-highest peak in the world, on a single day, May 15, 2019, has documented the fascinating experience in a colorful book form.

Dr. Suresh Haware, chairman of the Haware Group and an amateur mountaineer, released the Marathi book "Shikhararatna Kanchenjunga". The book is characterised as a voyage of emotions, fortitude, perseverance, and adventure.

The intriguing aspect is that it is a novel attempt to write a book in Marathi literature about "the same subject and the same expedition, but from two different perspectives"; the team leader Umesh Zirpe and summiteer Bhushan Harshe, who both experienced the same emotions from different perspectives, respectively, in the first book.

"Harshe and I have been working together for nearly two decades, and understand each other deeply. We both could well imagine what the other was thinking in a particular situation. It helped us write the book, threading the story together from each other's viewpoints without any repetition, "said Zirpe.

In addition to praising the efforts, Dr. Haware stated the book can serve as a great example of how to capture the excitement and hardships of a high-flying adventure while concentrating on the kind of preparation and management necessary for such trips to be successful.

Harshe said that he kept a daily journal for a newspaper during the expedition, the majority of which is now included in the book. Zirpe stressed how unique each voyage is, with new difficulties arising at every stage that calls for careful planning and administration.
