News Synopsis

Freedom of speech is a tricky thing. Everyone's up for it until it is about them. Earlier it was the government that was often blamed for repressing people's voices and restrained their freedom to express. But now even corporations are alleged for doing the same. Netflix recently came under scrutiny for allegedly firing an employee for criticizing Dave Chapelle's new show for being Trans phobic.

Terra Field, a trans employee who works for Netflix, criticized Chapelle for being Trans phobic in his new special. Her tweet went viral a few days back. It was alleged that she was fired for this but Netflix put out a statement to clear the air regarding this matter. In it the company claimed to support their employees' freedom to disagree and express themselves openly. Netflix also added that it offers the same freedom to talent and would never repress an artist's voice because some people don't like it.

Netflix said this in support of Dave Chapelle, whose name has now become synonymous with controversy. His last special 'sticks & stones' too got a lot of online hate but that didn't stop Netflix from signing a deal with him again. Netflix states that it supports people's right to speech and expression honestly and would never take extreme measures against someone with a strong opinion.
