News Synopsis

Boycott Raksha Bandhan is now trending on Twitter in response to requests for Aamir Khan's Laal Singh Chaddha and Alia Bhatt movie Darlings to be boycotted. The film, which stars Akshay Kumar, joined the social media boycott movement when some users removed Kanika Dhillon's supposedly 'Hinduphobic' tweets from when she was four years old.

At a promotional event for the movie, the Samrat Prithviraj actor responded to these boycott requests by saying, "It doesn't make sense." Akshay continued the report by saying, "Don't see the movie if you don't feel like it. It's a free country, and the movie is available; it's up to the individual whether they choose to view it or not. I want to assure you that every industry, whether it be the movie, apparel, or anything else, contributes to the economy. But it makes no sense to take actions like boycotting movies."

Along with Bhumi Pednekar and Akshay in the key roles, Raksha Bandhan also stars Sadia Khateeb, Sahil Mehta, Sahejmeen Kaur, and Deepika Khanna in crucial supporting roles. The movie's release will conflict with the Tom Hanks-inspired Indian version Laal Singh Chaddha, starring Aamir and Kareena Kapoor. Directed by Aanand L Rai, Raksha Bandhan is slated for its theatrical release on August 11.
