News Synopsis

On Wednesday, the popular video streaming and sharing platform YouTube launched a Beta version of 'Channel Memberships Gifting' to a small group of creators. With the launch of this feature, these creators now can earn more money. The gift memberships make use of the same 70/30 revenue split where revenue share is calculated after App Store fees on iOS and other charges like sales tax.

Google-backed Youtube

informed that users who have received a gift membership will now be able to get 1 month of access to channel membership perks including loyalty badges, custom emoji, and more. In a statement, Youtube told, "Over the next several months, we'll be actively expanding the feature to even more creators. Viewers who receive gift memberships do not pay any charges and as the creator, you receive your usual revenue share from each transaction.” However, users, currently, cannot buy gift memberships on smartphones during the Beta.

To buy these gift memberships on live streams, current channel members just need to click the $ button next to the live chat. Youtube further commented, "Memberships Gifting is only available for viewers to purchase on desktop live streams. We're working on bringing this to mobile soon.”
