Elon Musk announced on Friday that Twitter plans to relaunch its premium service, which will give accounts various colored check marks, the next week. This is a new attempt to modernize the service after a previous attempt failed.

A day after Elon Musk claimed he would provide "amnesty" for suspended accounts, it is the latest modification to the social media platform that the billionaire Tesla CEO purchased last month for $44 billion, adding to the uncertainty for users.

Due to a flurry of fake accounts, Twitter previously suspended the premium service, which under Musk gave blue-check labels to anyone paying $8 per month.

To avoid impersonation, the blue check was initially handed to various government agencies, corporations, celebrities, and journalists.

To avoid impersonation, the blue check was initially handed to official organisations, businesses, celebrities, and journalists.

According to the most recent version, companies will receive a gold check, governments will receive a grey check, and everyone who pays for the service—celebrities included—would receive a blue check, Musk stated on Friday.

"All verified accounts will be manually authenticated before check activates," he said, adding it was "Painful, but necessary" and promising a "longer explanation" next week. He said the service was "tentatively launching" Dec. 2.  he stated.

After accounts impersonated companies like gaming giant Nintendo, Lockheed Martin, Eli Lilly & Co., and even Elon Musk's own businesses Tesla and SpaceX, along with various professional sports and political figures, Twitter put the revamped premium service on hold days after its launch earlier this month.
