News Synopsis

Tesla has been ruling the electric vehicle industry for the past few years. Currently, it holds almost 14% of the market share of the electric passenger vehicles industry. One of the most striking features of Tesla’s car is its famous technology ‘AUTOPILOT’. It assists the driver in operating the vehicle by controlling acceleration, braking, steering, etc. However, recently customers of TESLA have been complaining about ‘Phantom Braking’. Phantom Braking is referred to the sudden braking of Tesla cars on highways when on Autopilot. US regulator the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is currently investigating the problem. Tesla has earlier said that even though the Autopilot system helps in driving the car, it is no substitute for a human driver. Tesla said even when the Autopilot is engaged, the driver should remain cautious and vigilant. NHTSA is also currently investigating Tesla over two other issues.
