PM Narendra Modi to Inaugurate Noida International Airport: A New Aviation Hub for India

Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the much-anticipated Noida International Airport on March 28, marking a major step in strengthening India’s aviation infrastructure and boosting connectivity in the Delhi-NCR region.

The newly developed Noida International Airport will be officially inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 28, 2026. The event signifies a landmark achievement in India’s infrastructure development and aviation expansion.

According to official details, the Prime Minister will first conduct a walkthrough of the airport terminal at Jewar in Gautam Buddha Nagar district. Following this, he will inaugurate the first phase of the airport and address a public gathering, highlighting the importance of this project for regional and national growth.

A Second International Gateway for Delhi-NCR

The Noida International Airport has been developed as the second major international airport serving the National Capital Region (NCR), complementing the existing Indira Gandhi International Airport.

Together, these two airports are expected to function as an integrated aviation network, significantly reducing congestion and enhancing passenger handling capacity in one of India’s busiest air travel regions. This dual-airport system is designed to improve efficiency and elevate Delhi-NCR’s status as a global aviation hub.

One of India’s Largest Greenfield Airport Projects

The airport stands out as one of the largest greenfield aviation projects in India. Developed from scratch, it reflects the country’s growing ambition to modernize infrastructure and meet rising air travel demand.

Phase-I of the project has been completed with an investment of approximately ₹11,200 crore under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. This approach has enabled collaboration between the government and private sector to deliver a world-class facility.

Passenger Capacity and Future Expansion

In its initial phase, the airport is designed to handle around 12 million passengers annually. However, its long-term vision is much more ambitious.

Once fully developed, the Noida International Airport is expected to scale up its capacity to accommodate up to 70 million passengers per year. This expansion will play a crucial role in meeting the rapidly increasing demand for air travel in India.

Advanced Infrastructure and Technology

The airport is equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure to ensure smooth and efficient operations. One of its key highlights is a 3,900-metre runway capable of accommodating wide-body aircraft used for long-haul international flights.

It also features advanced navigation systems such as the Instrument Landing System (ILS), along with modern airfield lighting. These technologies will enable safe, reliable, and all-weather operations, ensuring round-the-clock functionality.

Strong Cargo and Logistics Ecosystem

Beyond passenger services, the airport has been designed as a major cargo and logistics hub. It includes a multi-modal cargo facility with an integrated terminal and dedicated logistics zones.

Initially, the cargo facility will be capable of handling over 2.5 lakh metric tonnes annually. Over time, this capacity can be expanded to 18 lakh metric tonnes, supporting India’s growing trade and e-commerce sectors.

Additionally, the airport will house a dedicated 40-acre Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility, further strengthening its role in the aviation ecosystem.

A key highlight of the Noida International Airport is its commitment to sustainability. The project has been designed as a net-zero emissions facility, incorporating environmentally friendly practices and energy-efficient systems.

The architectural design of the airport reflects a unique blend of tradition and modernity. Inspired by Indian heritage, the design incorporates elements reminiscent of ghats and havelis.
