News Synopsis

Mitra was born as Amita or Bela Bose in Kodalia, undivided 24 Parganas in British India. Her father was Suresh Chandra Bose. She was the niece of Subhas Chandra Bose. Mitra took an active part in the anti-British movement in 1940 while Subhas Chandra Bose left the Ramgarh Session of the Indian National Congress. Smt. Mitra joined in Indian National Army and worked in Jhansi Rani Brigade. She gave shelter to the revolutionaries who came outside of India, operated the transmitter of Azad Hind Radio, and sent information to Singapore from Kolkata from January to October in 1944. In 1947 Smt. Mitra formed a social organization, Jhansi Rani Relief Team. In 1950 she started working in Abhaynagar near Dankuni for the development of refugees who came from East Pakistan.

She is the “Jhansi Ki Rani” of Bengal. She is the inspiration and motivation of all the women in Bengal. Every day, women are proving themselves that they are no longer the weaker section. Even the name of the railway station Bela Nagar is named after her, Bengal is showing immense respect to our Jhansi ki Rani, our strong leader.
