News Synopsis

Live-in Relationships have long been considered taboo by Indian society. Since we come from a lineage where marriage was fixed by parents and premarital relationships weren't a thing, it's only natural that Indians feel contrived about live-in relationships. When it comes to the matter of love, India has been slow in letting go of its biases and ancient traditions. They want to love and live a life in dignity but doing so in India requires courage and stubbornness. Allahabad High Court, in its latest ruling, said that live-in relationships are a part of everyday life and should be treated as a personal choice. It further stated that live-in relationships are protected by the right to life and personal liberty under Article 21 of the constitution.

This statement was made in light of two petitions filed by two women who had stated that their families were interfering in their daily life. Shaira Khatun and Zeenat Parveen have been living with their partners for quite some time now but their families constantly interfere with their daily life.
