News Synopsis

This time the government is hell-bent on not letting the COVID-19 situation get out of control as it failed to do so last year which eventually led to the second wave of the virus. The second wave was fatal and took many lives. The numbers were scary and there was a total collapse of the health sector. It resulted in a horrific state of affairs and the damage it left is irreparable. That’s why the government is taking strict measures to control the spread of the COVID-19 virus during the festival season. Since Diwali is a major Hindu festival, millions of people celebrate it by going out and holding large gatherings. This can become a major cause for the spread of the virus and can eventually lead to the much anticipated and dreaded third wave.

The decision to impose section 144 is a good decision but there must be other guidelines too such as wearing masks and maintaining social distance for this move to be successful. Now it is to be seen whether other states would also follow this move and bring in section 144 in major cities where the risk of spread is higher.
