News Synopsis

A handwritten page from the original manuscripts of Sherlock Holmes was auctioned by Heritage Auctions in Dallas. The page from the manuscript of the book named The Hound of the Baskervilles measuring 20 cm by 33cm was sold for $423,000 to a private buyer.

The sold page is one of the 37 remaining original pages that are known to exist now. Most of the pages of the original manuscript were disoriented as Sir Arthur Ignatius Conan Doyle, the author of the book used acidic paper. The page that was auctioned was in good condition as compared to the other remaining pages. Joe Maddalena, the executive vice president of Heritage has said that this is one of the remaining pages and others are in libraries and private collections, which only increases the value of the page.
