News Synopsis

Google presented a special Doodle to renowned Indian mathematician and physicist Satyendra Nath Bose on Saturday for his outstanding contributions to the fields of physics and mathematics.

On this day in 1924, Satyendra Nath Bose, best known for his work on quantum mechanics in the early 1920s, gave the quantum formulation to German scientist Albert Einstein, who recognized it as a major discovery of quantum mechanics

Born in Kolkata in 1894, Bose had a wide range of interests in a variety of fields, including physics, mathematics, chemistry, biology, mineralogy, philosophy, art, literature, and music.

Inspired by physicist Jagadish Chandra Bose and historian Prafulla Chandra Ray, Bose was a lecturer at the University of Calcutta's Faculty of Physics from 1916 to 1921.

In 1924, Bose wrote a dissertation that derived Planck's law of quantum radiation without reference to classical physics. In 1954, Bose was awarded the Padma Vibhushan, India's second-highest civilian honor.
