News Synopsis

From October 28, Meta will discontinue its standalone Facebook Gaming app for both Android and iOS. Additionally, neither the Apple Play Store nor the Google Play Store will have the app.

The reasons behind the closure of the standalone game app were not given by Meta. The company's website features a banner that states, "Despite this news, our mission to connect players, fans and creators with the games they love hasn't changed, and you'll still be able to find your games, streamers and groups when you visit Gaming in the Facebook app,"

"We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to all of you for everything that you've done to build a thriving community for gamers and fans since this app first launched," the notice continued. Users may watch their favorite streamers, play instant games, and join gaming groups with the app, which was released in April 2020.

According to TechCrunch, Facebook encountered difficulties when attempting to deploy the app because Apple repeatedly denied it, citing its policies that forbid apps whose primary function is the distribution of casual games. Facebook was compelled by Apple's regulations to remove game functionality from the app. The company declared that it would keep supporting gaming groups, developers, and producers on the main Facebook app. For all developers, Facebook Gaming has launched a new "Clips to Reels" feature that enables them to turn live gameplay clips into Reels.
