Facebook In India Faces Conflicts Due To Fake News

The social media giant Facebook has been facing serious problems in India. The platform has become a mode of transfer of fake news. This spread of fake news has devastating consequences. The most threatening one is the psychological impact of such posts on the consumers. It hampers the decisions they make and polarises the masses.

"I've seen more images of dead people in the past three weeks than I've seen in my entire life," a Facebook researcher in India wrote in 2019 after following recommendations by the social network's algorithms for three weeks. The wide range of features makes it more vulnerable to all kinds of misinformation and hate speech. It has even been accused of being biased.
