Elon Musk Makes Fun Of Senate Democrats For Calling For FTC To Investigate Twitter

Elon Musk, the CEO of Twitter, fired a shot at Senate Democrats on Friday after a number of them wrote a letter to the Federal Trade Commission requesting that the commission looks into any possible consent decrees or consumer protection laws that the social media company may have violated.

While maintaining silence about the historic collapse of the cryptocurrency exchange company FTX, which has declared bankruptcy after losing billions of dollars, Musk made fun of the senators for requesting the investigation.

He illustrated his point by tweeting a meme of two rhinoceroses mating in the background of a wildlife photographer who is oblivious to the action.

The phrase that is visible over the photographer reads, "Senators calling to investigate Twitter."

According to Fox Business, seven Democrats wrote a letter to FTC Chair Lina Khan on Thursday accusing Twitter of having "serious, willful disregard for the safety and security of its users" and asserting that since his $44 billion takeover, Musk has “taken alarming steps that have undermined the integrity and safety of the platform,” 

Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn), Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.), Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass. ), Ed Markey (D-Mass.), Bob Menendez (D-N.J.), and Cory Booker all signed the letter (D-N.J.).

Sam Bankman-Fried, a co-founder of FTX, lost $16 billion after it came to light that he had been giving money to his girlfriend's sister's trading business. According to reports, the corporation has lost up to $2 billion or more in missing consumer payments.

In a court filing earlier this week, FTX's lawyers stated that there were already over 100,000 claims against the company and that once the bankruptcy case is over, that number might rise to over 1 million, most of whom would be consumers.
