News Synopsis

The BCC contacted Twitter to fix the problem "as as soon as possible a day after Elon Musk, who owns Twitter, had labeled the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC)  as being funded by the government.

Musk replied to the email by claiming that the news organization is 'among the least biased'  He said that every organisation has various biases, some of which are obvious and others which are not.

According to Twitter's help center, the label "government funded media" denotes that the government has editorial control over the content of certain media outlets.

Response from Musk Musk replied to the BBC's email by asking,' Is the Twitter label accurate?' Later in a tweet he also asked 'What does BBC stand for again? I keep forgetting.'

According to a BBC report on Musk's email, "We are aiming for maximum transparency and accuracy, Linking to ownership and sources of funds probably makes sense. I do think media organisations should be self-aware and not falsely claim the complete absence of bias."

"I should note that I follow BBC News on Twitter, because I think it is among the least biased." he continued.

BBC's response to Twitter's tag

The new label had clearly offended BBC, who had contacted Twitter to correct it. The broadcaster claimed in a statement, The BBC is, and always has been, independent. We are funded by the British public through the lisence fee."

According to the BBC Charter, the government cannot interfere with editorial and creative choices made for the output services.

Owned by Elon Musk According to Twitter's profile page, the British broadcaster BBC is "government-funded media." The media outlet was designated by Twitter as one that receives government funding but maintains editorial freedom in its policies. Shortly after, the BBC questioned Twitter's claim, claiming that by charging licence fees, it contributed to "public services."
