News Synopsis

According to a recent report released by American Express, affluent Indian customers are increasingly making thoughtful and conscious purchasing decisions by going for sustainable products. As per the report, around 97% of people in India are interested in spending money on items that will impact local businesses and communities in a positive way. Interestingly this is the highest among all the other nations in which this survey was conducted. However, the catch behind this American Express report is that these respondents were a small set of exceptionally rich Indian customers. This survey was conducted between March 8 and 13, 2022, and involved around 7,996 adults from several nations across the globe.

However, the survey only included 1,000 respondents from India. Other than this these respondents were with a household income of at least $70,000 (₹ 53 lakh) and defined as adults who usually travel by air at least once a year. The American Express survey also informed that 87% of the respondents told that they have mostly bought sustainable goods and products. Additionally, about 98% of the Indian respondents intend to spend on items that will contribute to building low-carbon communities. Other than this 96% of respondents think about the impact on the environment while making purchase decisions.
