News Synopsis

PM Narendra Modi will launch the new and upgraded Vande Bharat Express on Friday from Gandhinagar during his two-day visit to Gujarat. Notably, this will be the Vande Bharat Express's first commercial run since its creation. It will connect the state capitals of Gujarat and Maharashtra by running between Gandhinagar and Mumbai.

"The Vande Bharat Express offers a myriad of superior amenities which will provide passengers with aircraft like traveling experience and advanced state-of-the-art safety features including Kavach technology - an indigenously developed Train Collision Avoidance System." Western Railway zone CPRO Sumit Thakur spoke to a news agency.

For a maximum operating speed of 160 kmph, the train bogies have fully suspended traction motors. The cutting-edge suspension technology will give the passengers a comfortable and secure ride. All classes of the train have recliner seats as well. Also included in the Executive Coaches are 180-degree rotating chairs.

"Every coach is equipped with 32-inch screens providing Passenger Information and Infotainment. Divyang-friendly washrooms and seat handle with seat numbers in Braille letters have also been provided," he explained.

This will be India's third Vande Bharat train, connecting the two state capitals of Gujarat and Maharashtra. On the routes between New Delhi and Varanasi and between New Delhi and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra, the other two are now in operation. It is largely indigenous and represents a significant development in the government's "Make in India" campaign.

However, a few components for the train have been imported from other nations. In the forthcoming Vande Bharat trains, the government wants to swap them out for locally produced materials. By August 2023, Indian Coach Factory hopes to have manufactured 75 Vande Bharat trains.
