News Synopsis

Air India has suspended operations to the Middle East, East Coast of North America, and parts of Europe, citing ongoing instability and uncertainty over the Iran-Israel ceasefire. The decision follows increased aviation safety concerns and temporary airspace closures in the region.

“India-bound flights from North America are diverting back to their respective origins and others are being rerouted or sent back to India,” read the airline's travel advisory.

“Amid the developing situation in the Middle East, Air India has ceased all operations to the region… until further notice,” it added.

Air India Prioritises Passenger Safety

Air India clarified that it is working closely with external security experts and is closely monitoring regional developments.

“We request the understanding of all passengers affected by this disruption that’s beyond an airline’s control,” said a spokesperson, stressing that passenger and crew safety remains the airline’s top priority.

Other Airlines Issue Fresh Travel Advisories

Several international carriers flying through or into the Middle East have revised schedules or issued alerts. While some have resumed operations, others continue to adopt cautious routing.

IndiGo Temporarily Suspends Flights

IndiGo initially halted services to and from cities like Dubai, Doha, Abu Dhabi, and Jeddah due to safety concerns.

The airline called the move a “proactive safety measure” and apologised for the inconvenience caused.

Gradual Resumption Underway

Flights began resuming after 10:00 AM, with updated routing and safety reviews in place.

IndiGo’s advisory confirmed that operations were restarting and urged travelers to “continue checking for updates.”

Emirates Chooses to Operate With Precaution

Dubai-based Emirates rerouted some flights on June 23, though no cancellations or diversions were reported.

The airline decided to continue operations after a detailed risk assessment, choosing flight paths that “avoid conflict areas.”

Possible Delays Expected

Emirates also warned of potential delays due to longer routes and airspace congestion, asking passengers to “check their flight status before heading to the airport” and contact travel agents for rebooking if necessary.

Both airlines assured that they remain in close contact with aviation authorities and are taking all steps to uphold safety standards.

Trump Declares ‘Complete and Total Ceasefire’ Amid Regional Tension

The flight suspensions and rerouting decisions come shortly after U.S. President Donald Trump declared a brokered ceasefire:

Trump announced a “complete and total ceasefire” between Iran and Israel.

However, the lack of official confirmation from Iran or Israel has left airlines cautious.

“Despite Trump’s announcement, tensions in the region remain high,” leading to flight route reassessments by international carriers.

Conclusion

The suspension and rerouting of flights by Air India, IndiGo, and Emirates reflect the aviation industry’s cautious approach amid ongoing uncertainty in the Middle East. While former U.S. President Donald Trump announced a “complete and total ceasefire” between Iran and Israel, the absence of formal confirmation from either nation has kept regional tensions high.

Air India’s move to halt operations to several key international destinations highlights the severity of the perceived risk. Meanwhile, IndiGo has started gradually resuming operations with enhanced safety checks, and Emirates continues to fly on adjusted routes after conducting risk assessments. These decisions underscore the aviation sector’s prioritisation of safety over schedule reliability.

With airspace closures and rerouted paths likely causing delays, travellers are being urged to monitor updates and remain in touch with their airlines. Until the geopolitical situation stabilises, disruptions may continue, making flexible travel planning essential for those flying to or through the affected regions.
