News Synopsis

The Ministry of Labour & Employment and Environment, Forest and Climate Change has launched new features on the eShram portal to increase its usefulness and simplify the registration process for unorganised workers. The eShram platform, which was launched in August 2021, aims to create an Aadhaar-seed national database of unorganised workers. The new features were launched by Union Minister for Labour & Employment and Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Mr. Bhupender Yadav, on April 24, 2023.

The eShram portal's new features aim to enhance the portal's utility and simplify the registration process for unorganised workers. The eShram platform will now offer eShram registered workers access to employment possibilities, skills, apprenticeships, pension plans, digital skills, and state programmes. The platform will also allow for the recording of migrant worker family members' information, which can assist in offering women and child-centred programmes to migratory employees who have moved with their families.

Another new feature added to the eShram portal is data sharing with the concerned Building and Other Construction Workers’ (BOCW) Welfare Board, which will ensure the registration of eShram construction workers with the respective BOCW board and access to the schemes meant for them. The Data Sharing Portal (DSP), which allows eShram data to be shared with State and UT governments, was also formally launched by the Union Minister. The Data Sharing Portal will enable the secure sharing of information on eShram beneficiaries with the relevant States and Union Territories for implementing social security and welfare programmes for unorganised employees who have registered with eShram.

The eShram platform has been successful in attracting registrations from unorganised workers since its launch in August 2021. Over 28.87 crore unorganised workers have registered on the eShram platform as of April 21, 2023. The platform aims to provide a comprehensive database of unorganised workers that can be used for welfare schemes and initiatives aimed at providing them with social security, pension plans, and other benefits.

The Ministry of Labour & Employment has been working to improve the welfare of unorganised workers in the country. The eShram portal is one such initiative aimed at creating a comprehensive database of unorganised workers that can be used to provide them with various benefits. The platform will also enable the government to track the employment status of unorganised workers and offer them employment opportunities, skills training, and apprenticeships.

In conclusion, the eShram platform's new features will help enhance the usefulness of the portal and simplify the registration process for unorganised workers. The platform's data sharing capabilities will also enable State and UT governments to implement social security and welfare programmes for eShram beneficiaries. The platform has already attracted a large number of registrations from unorganised workers and aims to provide them with social security, pension plans, and other benefits.
