News Synopsis

According to a statement released by the Prime Minister's Office on February 25, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will use video conferencing on February 26 at 12:30 pm to lay the foundation stone, inaugurate, and dedicate approximately 2,000 railway infrastructure projects worth over Rs 41,000 crore to the nation.

In agreement with the PMO note, PM Modi will inaugurate the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS), which would see the reconstruction of 553 railway stations.

Ten major characteristics of the railway infrastructure projects included under the proposal are as follows:

  1. At a cost above Rs 19,000 crore, these stations, which are dispersed among 27 states and 8 Union Territories, will be renovated.

  2. The stations will serve as hubs for integration between the city's two sides.

  3. Modern passenger facilities including roof plazas, lovely landscaping, better modern façades, intermodal connection, kids' play areas, kiosks, food courts, etc. will be available at the rebuilt stations.

  4. The redesigned stations will be Divyang-friendly and environmentally friendly.

  5. These station structures will be designed with inspiration from the local architecture, culture, and legacy.

  6. Additionally, the prime minister will open the renovated Gomti Nagar station in Uttar Pradesh, which came at a cost of around Rs 385 crore. In order to accommodate the anticipated rise in passenger traffic, the Gomti Nagar station features distinct areas for arrivals and departures.

  7. Ten railway stations in the Pune Railway Division (Dehu Road, Chinchwad, Hadapsar, Uruli, Wathar, Lonand, Sangli, Kedgaon, Baramati, and Karad) are scheduled for refurbishment as part of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme's second phase.

  8. Phase-II of the Scheme aims to remodel and modernize 34 South Western Railway stations, including two each in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Goa, at a total cost of Rs 801.95 crore.

  9. In addition, PM Modi will dedicate 1,500 Road Over Bridges (ROBs) and Underpasses around the country, lay their foundation, and open them. These initiatives would probably cost roughly Rs 21,520 crore in total.

  10. Rail travel will be more efficient and capable thanks to these improvements, which will also increase safety and connection.

The ABSS is a progressive program that aims to transform 1,309 railroad stations around the country into world-class terminals with state-of-the-art amenities.

The plan, which has a long-term goal, is to consistently improve stations so that every railroad traveler, regardless of status, has a convenient, pleasant, and comfortable ride.

What is the Amrit bharat station scheme?

The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme was recently introduced with the objective of improving and updating railway stations across the Indian Railways network. Presently, the plan aims for the Indian Railway network's 1275 stations to be upgraded and modernized. Under this initiative, eighteen stations from the Sonpur Division and twenty from the Samastipur Division have been designated for particular attention.

The Amrit Bharat Station project's long-term objective is to keep building stations. To enhance various station facilities, master plans must be created and progressively implemented. Enhancements to the station include better passenger information systems, Executive Lounges, designated spaces for business meetings, landscaping, meeting station-specific needs, waiting areas, restrooms, lift and escalator installations as needed, cleanliness, free Wi-Fi, and kiosks for local products through 'One Station One Product' initiatives.
