New Delhi, India- In a major announcement that will shape the future of the aviation industry in India, IndiGo has partnered with Turkish Airlines and placed an order for 500 aircraft. The deal, which is worth $50 Billion, was announced by the CEOs of both Airlines at a joint press conference on Thursday. 

IndiGo, which is the largest airline in India by passenger numbers, will receive 300 of the aircraft, while Turkish Airlines will take the remaining 200. The order is for a mix of narrow-body and wide-body planes, including Airbus A320neo and A321neo models; as well as Boeing 737 MAX and 787 Dreamliner planes.

The partnership between IndiGo and Turkish Airlines is aimed at expanding the global reach of both airlines and increasing connectivity between India, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. The two airlines have also signed a codeshare agreement that will allow them to share passengers on select flights and provide a seamless travel experience. The deal to acquire 500 aircraft from Airbus and Boeing will allow both airlines to fly to 27 destinations in the continent, including the UK, France, Italy, Ireland, Austria, and Switzerland, along with others already mentioned earlier.

Speaking at the press conference, IndiGo CEO Ronojoy Dutta said, "This partnership is a major milestone for IndiGo and marks a significant step forward in our expansion plans. The aircraft we have ordered will allow us to strengthen our network and offer our customers more choice and flexibility."

The CEO of Turkish Airlines, Bilal Eksi, said, "We are excited to partner with IndiGo and expand our presence in India, which is one of the fastest-growing aviation markets in the world. This partnership will enable us to offer our passengers more destinations and flights, while also contributing to the growth of the Indian economy."

The order of 500 aircraft is the largest ever by an Indian airline and is a testament to the growing demand for air travel in the country. With this massive investment, IndiGo is set to consolidate its position as the leading airline in India and expand its global footprint.

The purchase of 470 passenger aircraft from the same manufacturers, along with 370 further optional purchases that would be made over the following ten years, was made by Air India, which is owned by the Tata Group, just days prior to IndiGo's deal.

He said that 10% of the 1,800 daily flights IndiGo now runs are on international routes. "The farthest we travel is to Turkey. We have been very keen to fly further and that's why a partnership with Turkish airlines,"  he added.
IndiGo will open two new points in the near future Nairobi and Jakarta.
