News Synopsis

Uttar Pradesh, a northern Indian state rich in heritage and culture, is emerging as a safe and accessible travel hub, especially for international tourists. At the ITB Asia travel trade show held in Singapore from October 23 to 25, tourism leaders underscored the state's appeal and reassured international visitors, particularly those from Singapore, of its welcoming environment.

Rahul Wadhwa, Head of CAL India Tours and Travel, shared his vision for raising Uttar Pradesh's profile on the global tourism map. He emphasized the need to spotlight UP beyond the iconic Taj Mahal in Agra, adding, “We need to educate global travellers about the attractions in Uttar Pradesh and make UP known more and above the iconic Taj Mahal in Agra." With this approach, Wadhwa anticipates a 10% boost in UP’s travel agency sector as international tourists become more aware of its offerings.

Wadhwa also highlighted his company’s efforts to establish partnerships worldwide, fostering tourism not just in UP but across India. “The growth in five-star hotels and infrastructure investments, like new highways, is facilitating seamless travel across the country,” he noted.

This modernization aligns with the tech-driven evolution of the travel industry, where online bookings and mobile applications have replaced traditional methods like telex and phone reservations, making travel to India smoother than ever.

Uttar Pradesh Meets Global Standards in Hospitality and Safety

Echoing Wadhwa’s sentiments, Sushil Kumar Singh, Managing Director of Jatak Travels, emphasized the safety and ease of travel in India and Uttar Pradesh. He noted that India’s tourism infrastructure has greatly improved, reassuring travelers who may still have concerns about safety.

"We have tourist-friendly people and highly rated facilities across the country and in UP," Singh affirmed. Furthermore, he pointed out that India's tourism destinations and services are now on par with international standards, saying, "We are no less than any other tourist destination." His business, Jatak Travels, has experienced remarkable growth, with a 200% increase in activity since the end of the pandemic, reflecting the growing appeal of India to global tourists.

New Attractions in Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda District Draw Pilgrims and Nature Enthusiasts

Union Minister of State for Forest, Environment, and Climate Change Kirti Vardhan Singh recently announced government efforts to enhance facilities for pilgrims and tourists visiting Ayodhya, by attracting them to the neighboring Gonda district. The Tikri Forest and Parvati Arga Bird Sanctuary are being developed as unique natural attractions near Ayodhya.

"The Parvati Arga Bird Sanctuary, encompassing 1,084 hectares, is part of the Ramsar project," Singh shared. This sanctuary is a significant site that hosts Siberian birds along with thirty indigenous species, as well as migratory birds from regions like Tibet, China, Europe, and Siberia during the winter months.

Enhancing such ecological sites not only supports conservation efforts but also offers tourists the chance to witness rare migratory species in their natural habitat, adding another layer of appeal to Uttar Pradesh’s travel landscape.

Conclusion

Uttar Pradesh’s emergence as a globally recognized travel destination highlights India’s growing commitment to providing safe, diverse, and enriching experiences for international tourists. By expanding beyond iconic landmarks like the Taj Mahal, the state is opening up new avenues for cultural and eco-tourism through attractions like the Parvati Arga Bird Sanctuary.

This initiative, backed by advancements in infrastructure, improved safety standards, and modernized booking technologies, is reshaping India's tourism landscape and positioning Uttar Pradesh as an appealing choice for travelers worldwide. As partnerships grow and awareness increases, Uttar Pradesh stands ready to welcome a new wave of tourists, bolstering the state’s tourism economy and showcasing its unique blend of heritage, natural beauty, and modern amenities.
