News Synopsis

On Wednesday, MakeMyTrip informed that it has registered a rise of about 150 per cent in bookings for super-luxury and premium hotels during the pandemic when compared to the pre-pandemic period. This is mainly because Indian travellers are seeking more elite travel experiences lately. According to the data analysed by the travelling company, One in every three Indian travellers searched and booked a premium or luxury property during the pandemic where usually the price of the average room per night was between Rs 13,000 to Rs 15,000.

MakeMyTrip Chief Operating Officer Vipul Prakash said, ''Appetite for luxury stays and hotels was always strong amongst Indian travellers. However, the pandemic has brought along an accelerated progression towards premium, super-premium and luxury properties. It is interesting to note people from non-metros are also warming up to the idea of rejuvenating or holidaying at a luxury stay''.

Mr Prakash later informed that bookings for luxury stays surged by around 90 per cent after the first wave of corona infections and after the second wave, it increased by about 40 per cent more. This shows a significant shift in the preference of travellers towards seeking elite travel experiences. Vipul Prakash further commented, ''We have witnessed a near 150 per cent increase in bookings for super-luxury and premium hotels during the pandemic as compared to the pre-pandemic period.”
