IndiGo Flight Cancellations Today: Passengers Stranded Amid Major Disruptions

IndiGo’s flight disruptions continue to affect passengers across India, with 10 flights cancelled in Ahmedabad and delays at several other key airports. The Civil Aviation Ministry is actively monitoring the situation, curtailing operations to stabilize the airline, and ensuring passengers receive timely updates and refunds.

IndiGo Cancels 10 Flights at Ahmedabad Airport

The ongoing IndiGo flight disruptions worsened on Wednesday as 10 departing flights were cancelled at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, Ahmedabad, as reported till 8 am. Passengers are left stranded amid these sudden cancellations, and airport authorities have assured that facilitation for affected travelers is being taken care of.

Widespread Flight Disruptions Across Major Airports

Other major airports, including Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai and Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi, are also witnessing significant flight disruptions. Passengers, particularly those with checked luggage, are facing unresolved issues and limited assistance from airline helpline services.

Civil Aviation Ministry Orders Operational Curtailment

Earlier today, the Union Civil Aviation Ministry (MoCA) directed IndiGo to reduce its overall operations by 10 percent, an increase from the previously ordered 5 percent cut. The Ministry stated this step was essential to "stabilise the airline's operations." Despite the curtailment, the airline has been instructed to maintain services to all its usual destinations.

Surprise Airport Inspections Conducted

The Ministry conducted surprise inspections at several airports with heavy air traffic on Tuesday. Madhu Sudan Shankar, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation, visited Mumbai Airport and assured the public that "things are in control." He added,

"We discussed with all the stakeholders, especially the airport operators and ATC control managers. Major affected sectors of the flight delays domestically are Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata, Kochi, Goa, and Lucknow. A lot of improvements also took place."

Baggage Issues Being Addressed

The Ministry also confirmed that 780 pieces of baggage are currently at the airports, with 90 percent expected to be dispatched to passengers by tomorrow.

"780 pieces of baggage are available at the airport, and 90% of them will be dispatched to the people by tomorrow," Shankar added.

Airports are now issuing notifications to passengers six hours prior to cancellations to prevent unnecessary travel and reduce inconvenience.

IndiGo Confirms Refunds

Union ministers also highlighted that IndiGo CEO Elbers has confirmed 100 percent refunds for flights affected up to 6th December, ensuring affected passengers will receive compensation for their disrupted travel plans.
