News Synopsis

Vietnamese electric vehicle maker VinFast has achieved a major milestone in India by selling 1,000 electric cars within just four months of entering the market. Supported by rapid network expansion and competitive pricing, the company is quickly emerging as a key player in India’s fast-growing EV segment.

VinFast Crosses 1,000 EV Sales in India

Giving a strong boost to its India strategy, Vietnam-based electric vehicle manufacturer VinFast has crossed the milestone of selling 1,000 electric cars in the country. Achieving this figure in just four months is a remarkable accomplishment for a new entrant.
The company has been steadily expanding its sales and service network while strengthening charging infrastructure across India, which has helped drive this rapid growth.

Strong Start for VinFast in 2026

VinFast has had a solid start to 2026, selling more than 200 electric cars so far this year. It has now emerged as the fourth major player in India’s electric car market, after Tata Motors, JSW MG Motor, and Mahindra Electric.
In 2025, VinFast sold around 830 electric cars in just three months, highlighting its growing momentum in the country.

India’s Electric Car Market Is Growing Rapidly

India’s electric car market has expanded sharply over the last two years. Annual sales rose from 82,286 units in 2023 to 176,000 units in 2025 — more than doubling in just two years.
Sales are increasingly becoming concentrated among a few established players, but new entrants like VinFast are beginning to carve out a meaningful presence.

VinFast’s Market Entry Strategy

VinFast entered the Indian market in September 2025 with the launch of the VF6 compact electric SUV and the VF7 mid-size electric SUV.
According to analysts at JMK Research, while overall volumes are still relatively low, new players are starting to record notable sales and strengthen their position in the competitive landscape.

VinFast’s early success is being attributed to multiple factors, including local manufacturing, rapid expansion of sales and service networks, and smart positioning in the right price segments.

VinFast VF6 and VF7 Price Range

In India, VinFast’s first models — the VF6 and VF7 — are priced in the ₹16 lakh to ₹25 lakh range. This is currently the most active segment of the electric passenger vehicle market.
This price band bridges the gap between mass-market EVs and premium imported electric cars and has played a key role in driving private EV adoption in recent years.

Local Manufacturing and Network Expansion

VinFast operates an electric vehicle assembly plant in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, with an initial annual capacity of 50,000 vehicles, which can be expanded to 150,000 units.
Globally, this is VinFast’s third manufacturing facility. It helps lower entry barriers, supports competitive pricing, and positions India as both a major market and a potential export hub.

Within just four months of entering the market, VinFast has already set up more than 25 dealerships and over 80 service centers across multiple cities. This rapid network expansion is faster than many recent EV entrants and reflects the company’s strong focus on early execution and preparedness.
