News Synopsis

According to the official sources, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Boris Johnson is planning to visit India later this month. His Visit will focus on strengthening bilateral ties against the backdrop of the ongoing India-UK Free Trade Agreement negotiations. He is expected to visit India around April 22. He will be visiting India after a long time. In the past, Johnson was forced to cancel planned visits to India twice last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. First in January 2021, when he was the chief guest at India's Republic Day, but due to the COVID crisis in his country, it could not materialize, and then in April, when India was in the midst of a pandemic wave. A Downing Street spokesperson said: “The leaders welcomed India and the UK's strong and prosperous relationship, and agreed to continue to build on trade, security, and business ties in the coming weeks and months. They looked forward to meeting in-person at the earliest opportunity.” A week before, sources from Downing Street informed PTI that Johnson was “very keen” to visit India for talks with Prime Minister Modi, though firm plans are yet to be fully drawn up.
