TRAI to Add Appeal Feature in DND App, New MyCall Version Launching in March
News Synopsis
In a significant step toward strengthening consumer protection in India’s telecom sector, TRAI is upgrading its digital complaint platforms. With the addition of an appeal feature in the DND app and updated versions of MyCall and MySpeed apps, the regulator aims to enhance transparency, efficiency, and user empowerment.
DND App to Get Appeal Feature, Empowering Consumers
TRAI Chairman Anil Kumar Lahoti stated that the DND app will soon include an appeal feature.
Currently, telecom operators sometimes close spam call or SMS complaints by citing incorrect or insufficient reasons. In such cases, consumers have limited options for further action.
With the new appeal feature:
-
Users will be able to escalate their complaints to a higher level directly through the app.
-
Complaints can be re-examined for proper action.
-
Transparency in grievance redressal is expected to improve.
However, the exact timeline for the implementation of this feature has not yet been announced.
Multilingual DND App to Benefit Rural Users
TRAI has introduced a new version of the DND app with multilingual support. This update is particularly beneficial for consumers in remote and rural areas.
Key Benefits:
-
Complaint filing in local languages
-
Fewer steps to register complaints
-
Improved preference management
-
Reliable support for dual-SIM users
-
Faster response system
By making the platform more accessible, TRAI aims to increase adoption and ease of use among a wider population base.
DND App Usage Data Highlights Its Importance
According to TRAI, a total of 3.1 million complaints related to commercial communications were registered in 2025.
-
Around 1.7 million complaints were filed through the DND app alone.
-
This accounts for more than half of the total complaints.
These figures clearly indicate that the DND app has become a crucial tool for consumers in tackling spam.
Under the latest update, users will also be able to identify the sender behind an SMS header or 1600 series number directly through the app. This feature is expected to help curb fraud and spam activities more effectively.
New MyCall App Version to Launch in March
The updated version of the MyCall app will be launched in March to address call quality complaints.
Through this app, consumers can directly report issues such as:
-
Call drops
-
Poor voice clarity
-
Network connectivity problems
The objective is to collect better quality data and ensure improved network performance across telecom operators.
