Tesla Model Y Price Revealed for India Market

Tesla has marked its long-awaited debut in India with the launch of its popular electric SUV, the Model Y, on July 15, 2025. Prices start at ₹59.89 lakh (ex-showroom) as the company opened its first showroom at the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) in Mumbai.

The Model Y is now listed on Tesla India’s dedicated website. However, the listing currently lacks specific delivery timelines and does not offer test drive options yet.

Maharashtra Welcomes Tesla’s Arrival

The launch event saw the presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who praised Tesla’s entry into India. He commented, “Tesla has arrived in the right city in the right state,” while expressing hope that future Tesla R&D and manufacturing would be based in India.

Model Y Pricing and Variants Explained

Tesla is offering two Model Y variants in India, both equipped with a top speed of 201 km/h:

• Model Y Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD): ₹59.89 lakh

• Model Y Long Range RWD: ₹67.89 lakh

These prices include GST, but the on-road cost—including road tax, FasTag, and other charges—is:

• Model Y RWD: ₹61,07,190

• Model Y Long Range RWD: ₹69,15,190

Buyers can also opt for Tesla's Full Self-Driving Capability for an additional ₹6 lakh, which aims to eventually allow autonomous driving under most conditions via software updates.

Exterior and Interior Customization Options

The standard exterior colour offered is Stealth Grey. Additional colour options include:

• Pearl White Multi-Coat and Diamond Black: ₹95,000

• Glacier Blue: ₹1,25,000

• Quick Silver and Ultra Red: ₹1,85,000

All trims come with an All Black interior by default. An optional Black and White interior package is available for ₹95,000.

Performance and Range Details

The Tesla Model Y is designed to cater to both urban and long-distance driving needs:

• Model Y RWD:

  • Range: 455 km (WLTP)

  • 0–100 km/h: 5.9 seconds

• Model Y Long Range RWD:

  • Range: 533 km (WLTP)

  • 0–100 km/h: 5.6 seconds

Using Tesla’s supercharging technology, the car can recover up to 238 km (RWD) or 267 km (Long Range) of range in just 15 minutes.

Premium Features and Safety Tech

The Model Y in India is equipped with several high-end features:

• 15.4-inch central touchscreen and an 8-inch rear passenger display

• Heated, ventilated front seats and foldable rear seats

• Ambient lighting, noise-reducing suspension, and climate control

• Eight exterior cameras for enhanced safety and Tesla’s active safety suite

• Entertainment features like Tesla Theater, Arcade, and app-based remote vehicle controls

Tesla vs Competitors: Will the Pricing Work?

At ₹60–70 lakh, the Tesla Model Y directly challenges premium electric SUVs in India. Competitors include:

• BYD Seal Performance: ₹53 lakh

• Mercedes EQB: ₹77.75 lakh

• BMW iX1, Audi Q4 e-tron, among others

On the other hand, more affordable EVs like the Tata Nexon EV (₹14.49 lakh) and MG ZS EV (₹18.98 lakh) highlight the significant price gap between mainstream and premium EVs.

Meanwhile, VinFast Auto also launched bookings for its VF 6 and VF 7 SUVs in India on the same day with a refundable booking amount of ₹21,000.

Tesla’s Long Journey to Enter India

Tesla’s India entry follows years of anticipation. Elon Musk met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2023, confirming Tesla’s intent to enter the Indian market. Since then, states like Maharashtra and Gujarat have pitched for Tesla factories.

The Mumbai showroom was designed by Trident Interiors, under a highly confidential project dubbed “Operation Peacock.” The space reflects Tesla’s global aesthetic with an all-white theme, and a dedicated Tesla service workshop is reportedly underway.

A Boost from India’s EV Policy

Tesla’s launch aligns with India’s new EV policy, which offers reduced import duties for manufacturers committing to local production within three years—a move that may encourage Tesla to localize operations in the future.
