News Synopsis

5G spectrum will be auctioned on July 26, 2022. To participate in the auction, 4 companies have made an Earnest Money Deposit of Rs 21,800 crore. The dream of 5G services in India is going to happen soon. Telecom companies are preparing to participate actively in this auction. Four telecom companies have deposited an Earnest Money Deposit (EMD) of Rs 21,800 crore to participate in the auction. Reliance Jio has deposited the highest amount of Rs 14000 crore, EMD.

During testing, Jio's 5G Network achieved download speeds of 420Mbps (3.36Gbps) and upload speeds of 412Mbps (3.29Gbps). Currently, Jio's 4G network has a download speed of 46.82 Mbps and an upload speed of 25.3 Mbps. After this, Bharti Airtel has deposited 5,500 crores and Vodafone-idea has deposited EMD of 2200 crores. Adani Group is also participating in the auction. The company has deposited an EMD of 100 crores. 

Companies will bid heavily in the auction and try to get 5G spectrum across the country. The government is going to auction a total of 9 spectrum bands in which the total spectrum will be 72 GHz. The total spectrum placed in the auction is worth Rs 4.5 lakh crore. This time the government has also made the terms of the auction very easy, experts believe. Companies will soon start 5G services, which will benefit everyone. Telecom companies are currently testing 5G at 16 locations. And can start 5G in some places by October, although 5G services will be a bit expensive due to high speed and premium.

5G connectivity will be 10 times faster than 4G. DoT stated in April that a peak data speed of 4Gbps was achieved at the Gujarat test site during the 5G speed test.
