Qualcomm Partners Tata Electronics to Make Automotive Modules in India

Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. has partnered with Tata Electronics to manufacture Qualcomm Automotive Modules in India, marking a major step in strengthening the country’s semiconductor and automotive technology ecosystem.

Under this collaboration, Tata Electronics will serve as a manufacturing partner and join Qualcomm Technologies’ global network of module manufacturers. The move aligns with India’s broader semiconductor ambitions and the government-backed “Make in India” initiative.

Automotive Modules to Be Built at $3 Billion OSAT Plant in Assam

The modules will be produced at Tata Electronics’ upcoming Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) facility in Jagiroad, Assam. The greenfield facility is being developed with an investment of $3 billion and is expected to operate as a high-volume semiconductor assembly hub.

The Jagiroad plant will focus on:

• Wire bond technology

• Flip chip packaging

• Integrated Systems Packaging

These technologies will support production for automotive, communications, IoT and AI applications.

Focus on Digital Cockpits, Infotainment and Intelligent Vehicles

The partnership aims to enable local production of technologies for digital cockpits, infotainment, connectivity, and intelligent vehicle systems. It will address demand from Indian and global automakers.

Qualcomm Automotive Modules integrate Snapdragon Digital Chassis system-on-chips with key system components into production-ready modules for automakers. The modules are intended to simplify system design, reduce development time, and support the transition to software-defined vehicles.

As vehicles increasingly rely on advanced computing platforms for connected services, autonomous features and immersive infotainment systems, local manufacturing is expected to improve supply chain resilience and reduce turnaround times.

The collaboration comes at a time when India is aggressively expanding its semiconductor manufacturing capabilities under national initiatives aimed at reducing import dependence and building domestic chip capacity.

With automakers globally transitioning toward connected, electric and software-defined vehicles, the local production of advanced automotive modules could enhance India’s role in the global automotive electronics supply chain.

The Jagiroad OSAT facility is expected to serve both domestic manufacturers and international automotive OEMs, further positioning India as a key player in next-generation vehicle technology manufacturing.
