News Synopsis

Today marks the 89th anniversary of the birth of our mighty Indian Air Force. The Indian Air Force was established on October 8, 1932, to support the Royal Air Force of the United Kingdom. October 8, is hence marked as the IAF day. This year IAF is going to commemorate the victory of the Indian Army in the 1971 war against Pakistan. Originally, the IAF was established to support the United Kingdom's Royal Air Force and was used to be called Royal Indian Air Force, but after India declared itself as a “Republic” nation, the prefix “Royal” was removed in 1950. As always celebrations will take place at the Hindon Air Force Station in Uttar Pradesh's Ghaziabad in the presence of the Chief of Air Staff and senior officials of the three armed forces. IAF is the fourth largest air force in the world. It is headed by an Air Chief Marshal (ACM), while the President of India is the Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces.
