News Synopsis

Despite the fire accident, Okinawa Autotech, an electric motorcycle manufacturer, has overtaken Ola Electric to become India's leading electric two-wheeler brand. According to the Federation of Automobile Dealers Association (FADA), Okinawa Autotech sold the highest total of 9,309 units. Meanwhile, Ora Electric sold 9,225 units last month.

The company aims to aggressively expand its electric vehicle business and recently announced an investment of Rs 1,200-1,500 crore in e-two-wheeler over the next two years. According to a recent report, Okinawa Autotech has recalled 3,215 Praise Pro scooters to fix "all problems" related to the battery.

There are fires and explosions in electric motorcycles, but it is reported that the government is ready to introduce the EV battery standard (BIS standard) for EV motorcycles and plans to extend it to four-wheelers at a later date. The BIS standard for EV batteries will deal with size, connectors, specifications, minimum quality of cell, and battery capacity.
