Mercedes-Benz Unveils Updated S-Class with Advanced Tech

Luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the mid-lifecycle update of its flagship W223 S-Class to mark the brand’s 140th anniversary. The updated S-Class features next-generation technology, enhanced interior architecture, and upgraded powertrains that comply with upcoming Euro 7 emission norms. The facelifted model is expected to launch in India by late 2026 or early 2027.

Mercedes-Benz has introduced the updated version of its industry-leading flagship limousine, the W223 S-Class, with a focus on advanced digital architecture, enhanced ADAS features, and refined design updates. Alongside subtle and noticeable cosmetic changes, the brand has expanded personalization options through its MANUFAKTUR customization catalogue.

2026 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Architecture and Technology

The most significant update comes in the interior architecture, which becomes evident as soon as the doors open. The traditional flowing dashboard with wood trim and a vertical touchscreen has been replaced by a gloss black panel housing three displays, referred to by Mercedes-Benz as a Superscreen.

• 12.3-inch driver display

• 12.3-inch front passenger display

• 14.4-inch central touchscreen acting as the vehicle’s core interface

The new S-Class is built on the MB.OS architecture, featuring MB Drive Assist (ADAS) as standard. In markets where regulations permit—such as China and the US—Drive Assist Pro with full self-driving (FSD) capability will be offered.

Other highlights include:

• Adaptive air suspension as standard

• Optional active self-levelling suspension

• Rear-axle steering: 4.5-degree standard, 10-degree optional

2026 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Interior Updates

The extensive use of screens gives the cabin a more tech-focused appearance, replacing much of the traditional dashboard layout.

• Two 13.1-inch rear seat entertainment touchscreens remain

• Rear controller tablet replaced by two compact smartphone-style touch controllers

Despite the digital shift, luxury remains intact:

• Premium leather upholstery, optionally quilted

• Selective wood and trim paneling on doors, center console, and window sills

The dashboard now features:

• A slim metallic strip with integrated LED lighting replacing four AC vents

• Ambient lighting that actively changes color

• Metallic rotary air vents with ambient illumination on the sides

Like the E-Class, all air vents are powered, offering digital presets such as Diffuse and Focus, while still allowing manual adjustment.

2026 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Engine and Powertrain

No new engines have been added, but the entire lineup has been updated to meet Euro 7 emission standards. Importantly, both six-cylinder petrol/diesel engines and the V8 have been retained and will be offered in India.

Key highlights:

• All engines feature a 48V mild-hybrid system

• 17kW Integrated Starter Generator (ISG) upgraded for stronger boost and smoother transitions

M177 Evo V8 Engine

• 3,982cc twin-turbocharged V8

• Flat-plane crankshaft with new firing order

• Dual balancer shafts to reduce vibration

In the S-Class 580, the engine produces:

• 537hp of power

• Up to 750Nm of torque

The six-cylinder petrol engine (now called M256 Evo) has also been upgraded with optimized intake and exhaust ports, revised intake camshaft, and enhanced insulation.

The facelifted S-Class receives noticeable exterior enhancements, giving it a more commanding presence.
