Mercedes-Benz India Reports Record Q1 Sales, Unveils New GLS AMG Lineup
News Synopsis
Mercedes-Benz India has reported its highest-ever first-quarter retail performance, selling 4,238 units between April and June 2025. This marks a 10% year-on-year growth, reflecting sustained demand across the brand’s top-end luxury, electric vehicles (BEVs), and core segments.
The growth underscores the German automaker’s strong momentum in India’s luxury car market, with customers showing rising interest in hyper-personalized, premium vehicles.
Top-End and Electric Portfolio Drives Growth
Commenting on the milestone, Santosh Iyer, Managing Director and CEO of Mercedes-Benz India, attributed the growth to increasing demand in the top-end luxury and BEV segments. He stated, "Mercedes-Benz kick-starts the current fiscal with best-ever sales performance, registering 10% growth. The outstanding momentum of our top-end BEVs like the EQS SUV, EQS Maybach, and G 580 with EQ technology is very encouraging."
The top-end luxury category—which includes models like the S-Class, Mercedes-Maybach, EQS Maybach, and AMG lineup—saw a strong 20% growth. The G 580 with EQ Technology, EQS SUV, and the iconic AMG G 63 emerged as standout performers. Notably, the AMG GT 63 PRO is already sold out for 2025, further highlighting robust demand in the high-performance segment.
BEV Sales Surge 157%, Waiting Periods Extend
Mercedes-Benz’s battery electric vehicle (BEV) portfolio witnessed an impressive 157% surge, contributing 8% to the overall Q1 volumes. Key models driving this growth include the EQS 450 SUV, EQS Maybach Night Series, and the G 580 with EQ Technology.
Due to high demand, waiting periods have stretched up to six months, showcasing the shift in Indian consumer interest toward luxury electric mobility.
Core Segment Steady; E-Class LWB Remains a Bestseller
The core segment, comprising the C-Class, E-Class LWB, GLC, and GLE, accounted for 60% of Q1 sales, maintaining a 10% YoY growth. The E-Class LWB, now available in a more powerful E450 variant, continues to hold its position as India’s best-selling luxury sedan.
While the entry-luxury segment saw a minor dip, Mercedes-Benz maintained its value proposition by offering feature-rich models, despite rising pressure from lower-cost rivals.
Mercedes-Benz Launches GLS AMG Line in India
To complement its sales momentum, Mercedes-Benz India has introduced a new AMG Line variant of the GLS SUV — one of its flagship full-size luxury offerings. The launch strengthens the brand’s portfolio in the high-performance luxury SUV segment.
Over 16,000 GLS units are already on Indian roads. The new GLS AMG Line 4MATIC, available in both petrol and diesel variants, blends bold AMG styling with athletic road presence.
