News Synopsis

Maruti Suzuki India has officially entered the battery electric vehicle (BEV) segment with the launch of the e Vitara in India. The country’s largest carmaker has introduced the electric SUV with an introductory Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) price of Rs 10.99 lakh for the base variant, along with a battery usage cost of Rs 3.99 per km.

Bookings for the e Vitara are now open at Rs 21,000 through Nexa showrooms and the official Nexa website.

What Is BaaS and How Does It Work?

The Battery-as-a-Service model separates the battery cost from the vehicle’s upfront price. Customers pay:

  • Rs 10.99 lakh (introductory) for the base vehicle

  • Rs 3.99 per km as battery usage cost

This BaaS price excludes statutory levies such as road tax, insurance and TCS.

By removing the battery cost upfront, Maruti aims to lower the acquisition price of the EV and make electric mobility more accessible.

Variants, Battery Options and Power Output

The e Vitara is available in three variants:

  • Delta

  • Zeta

  • Alpha

Variant-wise pricing is yet to be announced.

Battery Pack Options

The SUV comes with two Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery options:

  • 49kWh

  • 61kWh

Power Output

  • 49kWh version: 105.8kW

  • Peak torque: 192.5Nm (both versions)

The vehicle uses a permanent magnet synchronous motor.

The BaaS model lowers the initial purchase barrier, while the 543km claimed range, 5-star safety rating, and comprehensive charging ecosystem position it as a serious contender in the mid-size electric SUV segment.
