India’s Most Affordable Convertible Car Mini Cooper S Launched
News Synopsis
BMW sub-brand Mini India has launched the new Mini Cooper S Convertible in the Indian market on December 12, making it the most affordable convertible car in India. Priced at ₹58.50 lakh (ex-showroom), the car promises a sporty open-top driving experience with strong performance and premium features.
Mini Cooper S Convertible Launched in India
Mini India has officially introduced the Mini Cooper S Convertible in India, marking the brand’s third launch in the last three months. Earlier, Mini had launched the JCW All4 in October and the Countryman SE All4 in November.
The new convertible is available as a fully built unit (CBU) and is currently the cheapest convertible car on sale in the Indian market. According to the company, the car can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in just 6.9 seconds.
One of the standout features is its electric fabric roof, which can be fully opened in 18 seconds at speeds of up to 30 kmph, and closed in 15 seconds. It also offers a ‘sunroof mode’, allowing partial opening for an open-air driving experience. The Mini Cooper S Convertible competes with the Volkswagen Golf GTI.
Exterior Design: Iconic Mini Styling with 18-Inch Alloy Wheels
The Mini Cooper S Convertible retains the brand’s iconic design language. At the front, it features circular LED headlights with DRLs and an octagonal grille with a body-coloured trim separating the centre section. A sporty air dam enhances the aggressive look.
On the sides, the car comes with 18-inch alloy wheels as standard and plastic cladding all around, giving it a sporty stance. At the rear, it gets Union Jack LED taillights and a downward-opening tailgate that can support up to 80 kg, functioning like a temporary seat. The car also carries red ‘S’ badging.
Colour options include black, white and red.
Interior Design: Premium Cabin with 9.4-Inch OLED Touchscreen
Inside, the Mini Cooper S Convertible offers a premium and modern cabin. The front seats are power-adjustable, and the driver seat also gets a massage function. The dashboard features a new knitted black-and-beige colour theme, adding a luxury feel.
At the centre is a 9.4-inch OLED touchscreen infotainment system that supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The steering wheel has a sporty design, though detailed specifications have not been disclosed.
Since it is a convertible, there is no traditional sunroof; instead, the fabric roof operates in sunroof mode. Boot space stands at 215 litres, which reduces to 160 litres when the roof is folded down. The car offers a 4-seater cabin, suitable for comfortable long drives.
Features: Head-Up Display and Harman Kardon Sound System
The Mini Cooper S Convertible comes equipped with several advanced features, including:
-
Head-up display
-
Wireless charger
-
Ambient light projection on the dashboard
-
Rear-view camera
-
Harman Kardon premium sound system
The OLED touchscreen also supports connected car technology, enhancing the overall driving and ownership experience, especially for convertible enthusiasts.
Performance: 204hp Turbo Engine, 237 kmph Top Speed
Powering the Mini Cooper S Convertible is a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that produces 204hp of power and 300Nm of torque. It is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and a front-wheel-drive setup.
Mini claims the car can sprint from 0–100 kmph in 6.9 seconds, while the top speed is 237 kmph. Official fuel efficiency figures have not been disclosed, but premium convertibles typically deliver around 10–12 kmpl.
Safety Features: Multiple Airbags and Stability Control
Safety details are relatively limited. Standard safety features include:
-
ABS with EBD
-
Multiple airbags
-
Electronic Stability Control (ESC)

There is no mention of Level-2 ADAS or advanced driver assistance systems. However, Mini states that the car is built to Euro NCAP safety standards, ensuring basic safety coverage.
