News Synopsis

Google has expanded its ability to provide detailed air quality information to help avoid pollution in the United States. First introduced in India in November 2021, this feature allows users to search for "nearby air pollution" and related searches.

According to TechCrunch, users can now search for queries such as "Brooklyn Air Quality" and "Boston Air Quality" to get information about locations that are different from their current location.

A spokesperson from the company said in a statement, “We're always working on new ways to connect people with helpful information when they come to Google.” The spokesperson quoted the report saying, “We continue to explore ways to make authoritative information on a range of sustainability and environmental topics readily accessible and look forward to sharing more in space soon.”

This new feature follows a series of search updates that Google has deployed over the past few months and is documented in the report. Last year, Google used the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) to allow users to search for real-time air quality information in their region of India.

Earlier this month, Google announced that it would add a new "highly cited" label to search results to help users find the original source of trend stories.
