News Synopsis

Essential Services on March 28th and 29th related to Banking, railways, transportation, electricity, etc are likely to be disrupted because of the two-day nationwide strike called by a joint forum of central trade unions. General Secretary of the All Indian Trade Union CongressAmarjeet Kaur while explaining the strike said: "We are expecting participation of over 20 crore formal and informal workers with mass mobilization of workers across the country during the strike on March 28 and 29 to protest against government policies." She further told that the strike will also participate in the rural parts of the country where informal workers in farming and other sectors will join the protest. The Joint forum further informed that Unions in the railways and defense sector will carry out mass mobilization in support of the strike at several places. The Union will protest and demands the scrapping of the proposed changes in labor laws, privatization of any form, and the national monetization pipeline. Other than these, hikes in wages under MNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi Rural Employment Guarantee Act) and regularisation of contract workers are also some of their other demands.
