Children aged 12-14 to Get More Covid-19 Vaccination Option

News Synopsis

Children between the age group of 12-14 years can get more vaccination options. Covovax and Corbevax, two more vaccines are being tested for covid-19 vaccination of this age group as results of the clinical trials will soon be out. Currently, Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin is the only vaccine available for children aged above 15.

The vaccination for children aged between 15 to 17 started on January 3. The vaccination drive has covered 45% of children in the age group. The covid-19 vaccine from Zydus Cadila has also received emergency use authorisation from the drug regulator on August 20. It is also the first vaccine in India that can be used for the vaccination of 12 years old and above.

The government of India is planning to start the vaccination of 12-14 years old from late February or early March as vaccines like Covovax and Corbevax may be available by that time.
