News Synopsis

Blinkit, the quick commerce platform owned by Zomato, has expanded its Apple product offerings beyond iPhones. Customers in 11 major cities can now order MacBook Air, iPad, AirPods, Apple Watch, and Apple accessories for fast delivery.

Blinkit’s Journey with Apple: From iPhones to More Gadgets

Blinkit first began delivering iPhones in 2022, starting with the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro. In 2023, it partnered with Apple premium reseller Unicorn to sell iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus. The platform then went a step further in 2024, ensuring the latest iPhone 16 was available for delivery on its launch day in September.

Quick Commerce vs. Traditional E-commerce Giants

Quick commerce platforms like Blinkit are reshaping online shopping by challenging e-commerce giants such as Amazon and Flipkart. Their competitive edge lies in ultra-fast delivery, making high-value electronics more accessible. With this expansion, Blinkit is looking to increase its average order value (AOV) by encouraging customers to make larger purchases, particularly smartphones and laptops.

Rival Platforms Enter the Quick Electronics Race

As Blinkit expands its Apple offerings, other quick commerce players are also strengthening their electronics delivery services. For example:

  • bigbasket collaborated with Tata’s Croma for iPhone 16 deliveries.

  • Zepto also offered the latest iPhone 16 on its platform.

Blinkit Partners with Xiaomi and Nokia for Smartphone Delivery

Earlier this year, Blinkit partnered with Xiaomi and Nokia to offer 10-minute smartphone deliveries in key metro cities like Delhi NCR, Mumbai, and Bengaluru. With its latest expansion, Apple products will now be available in additional cities like Chandigarh, Lucknow, Hyderabad, Pune, Ahmedabad, Chennai, Jaipur, and Kolkata.

Beyond Apple: Blinkit’s Growing Electronics Portfolio

Blinkit has been rapidly expanding its product categories. Alongside Apple products, it now offers a range of electronics, including:

  • Televisions

  • Laptops

  • Monitors

  • Printers

Electronics: A Fast-Growing Category in Quick Commerce

While groceries remain the core business for quick commerce platforms, electronics have emerged as one of the fastest-growing segments. According to Datum Intelligence, a November 2024 report revealed that:

  • 48% of quick commerce users purchased a mobile phone in the past six months.

  • 47% bought other electronic devices during the same period.

EMI Options for High-Value Purchases

Given the high price of electronics, many consumers prefer paying through EMIs. Acknowledging this trend, Blinkit introduced an EMI payment option in October 2024 for purchases above ₹2,999. CEO Albinder Dhindsa emphasized that this move aims to improve affordability and enable better financial planning for customers.

Conclusion: Blinkit Strengthens Its Market Position

With the expansion of Apple product deliveries and the introduction of high-end electronics and EMI options, Blinkit is positioning itself as a leading quick commerce platform beyond just groceries. The move intensifies competition in the Indian e-commerce space, pushing traditional platforms like Amazon and Flipkart to rethink their strategies. As demand for ultra-fast tech deliveries grows, Blinkit is set to become a dominant player in the electronics category.
