Bharat Taxi: India’s Government-Backed Ride-Hailing App

The Indian government recently launched a new taxi app, Bharat Taxi, designed for individuals who want to start a driving or taxi business. Bharat Taxi is set to compete with popular ride-hailing platforms like Ola, Uber, and Rapido. The app operates on a zero-commission model, allowing drivers to retain the maximum portion of their fares. Currently, the app is available only on Android devices, with an iOS version expected to launch soon.

Over 51,000 Drivers Registered

According to a report by PTI, Bharat Taxi, supported by eight major cooperative organizations, has begun pilot operations in the national capital. The app aims to offer reliable and simple transport services, competing with Ola, Uber, and Rapido. Initially, the platform offers car, auto, and bike services, and so far, over 51,000 drivers have registered.

App Live, iOS Version Coming Soon

The Bharat Taxi mobile app is currently available on the Google Play Store for trial and feedback. The iOS version is expected to be launched soon. The pilot is currently active in Delhi and Gujarat, receiving positive feedback from customers. On the Google Play Store, the app appears as Bharat Taxi Driver (Bharat Taxi). Users should ensure they download the version released by Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Limited. Bharat Taxi is a positive step towards the future of India’s gig economy.

Full Earnings for Drivers

Bharat Taxi’s primary goal is to provide rides at affordable prices for customers while ensuring that cab drivers receive their full payment. According to Sahakar Taxi Cooperative, drivers will receive the entire fare paid by customers, and they will also have representation on the organization’s board along with dividend shares.

Zero Commission Model

One of the key features of Bharat Taxi is that no commission will be charged. Drivers only need to pay a membership fee, which can be daily, weekly, or monthly. This ensures that all earnings from each trip go directly to the driver. The government believes this model will provide financial stability and confidence to millions of drivers. Drivers on this platform are referred to as ‘Saarthi’ rather than just drivers.

User-Friendly Booking and Transparent Pricing

For passengers, Bharat Taxi offers multiple features, including:

  • Easy booking

  • Transparent fare

  • Real-time tracking

  • Multi-language support

Additionally, all drivers are fully verified, and the platform provides 24x7 customer support and enhanced safety features. The government expects this to build trust among users, positioning Bharat Taxi as a safe and reliable alternative in the ride-hailing market.
