News Synopsis

India’s automobile industry delivered a strong performance in February 2026, with leading manufacturers reporting robust year-on-year growth across passenger vehicles, two-wheelers, and commercial vehicles. Companies such as Tata Motors, Hero MotoCorp, and TVS Motor Company posted impressive double-digit gains, signaling sustained consumer demand and positive market momentum.

Passenger Vehicle Segment Shows Strong Momentum

The passenger vehicle (PV) segment recorded healthy expansion, with several automakers achieving notable growth.

Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles

Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles reported a 35% rise in total sales, reaching 63,331 units compared to 46,811 units in February last year. Domestic PV sales climbed 34% to 62,329 units, while international sales nearly tripled to 1,002 units.

Electric vehicle (EV) sales were particularly strong, jumping 57% to 8,385 units across domestic and overseas markets. This growth underscores rising consumer interest in electric mobility and Tata’s expanding EV portfolio.

Hyundai Motor India

Hyundai Motor India posted a 10% increase in domestic sales, recording 52,407 units in February. The company maintained strong momentum after a record January, driven by demand across its SUV and passenger car lineup.

Maruti Suzuki India

Maruti Suzuki India reported steady domestic PV sales at 1,61,000 units, slightly higher than the previous year. While compact car sales declined, utility vehicle demand rose significantly to 72,756 units. Total sales, including exports, reached a record 2.14 lakh units, reflecting strong portfolio performance.

Mahindra & Mahindra

Mahindra & Mahindra saw a 19% growth in domestic utility vehicle sales, with 60,018 units dispatched. The surge was attributed to consistent demand for its SUV range.

Double-Digit Gains Across Emerging and Premium Brands

Kia India

Kia India recorded a 10.3% rise in sales to 27,610 units, marking its highest-ever February performance since entering the Indian market.

Renault India

Renault India reported a 31% jump in wholesales to 3,495 units, supported by strong demand for the Kiger and Triber models.

JSW MG Motor India

JSW MG Motor India achieved 24% year-on-year growth with 4,957 units sold. The company’s growth was fueled by both internal combustion engine vehicles and electric models. It also introduced the MG Majestor premium SUV, now open for pre-bookings.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor

Toyota Kirloskar Motor reported a 20% increase in total sales at 34,034 units. Domestic sales grew 16%, while exports surged 65%, highlighting strong international demand.

Two-Wheeler Segment Registers Exceptional Growth

The two-wheeler industry saw remarkable expansion in February 2026.

TVS Motor Company reported total monthly sales of 5,29,308 units, a 31% increase over last year. Two-wheeler sales grew 30% to 5,07,862 units, while three-wheeler sales surged 77%, demonstrating strong demand across categories.

Hero MotoCorp

Hero MotoCorp posted total sales of 5.58 lakh units, exceeding market expectations. Overall sales soared 43.84% year-on-year, with domestic sales rising 44.7% and exports climbing 34%.

Commercial Vehicle Segment Accelerates

Tata Motors’ commercial vehicle division reported a 32% year-on-year rise in total sales to 42,940 units. Domestic CV sales climbed 32.8%, while international volumes increased 17.9%. Growth was driven by strong performance in heavy commercial vehicles (HCVs), intermediate and light commercial vehicles (ILMCVs), passenger carriers, and small commercial vehicles (SCVs).

Honda Cars India Faces Export Challenges

Honda Cars India was among the few companies to report a decline. Total sales fell 30.11% to 7,212 units due to a sharp drop in exports. However, domestic sales remained stable, supported by steady demand for the Honda Amaze, City, and Elevate models.

Conclusion

February 2026 proved to be a robust month for India’s auto industry, with most manufacturers registering double-digit growth. Strong demand for SUVs, electric vehicles, and two-wheelers, coupled with improving export performance for several brands, reflects positive consumer sentiment and market resilience.

While a few players faced challenges in specific segments, the overall industry outlook remains optimistic as companies head into the final month of the fiscal year with solid momentum.
