Bharti Airtel has launched a real-time fraud detection solution that will identify and block access to malicious websites across all major Over-The-Top (OTT) communication platforms. This includes WhatsApp, Telegram, Facebook, Instagram, SMS, email, and web browsers. The initiative aims to provide comprehensive digital safety to its users amid rising incidents of online scams and fraud.

The service is currently live in the Haryana telecom circle, with plans for a nationwide rollout in the coming weeks.

Addressing the Surge in Online Scams

The launch comes at a crucial time when India is witnessing a sharp rise in digital frauds, ranging from OTP scams to phishing attempts through fake websites and profiles. Criminals are increasingly using advanced tools to deceive users via malicious links sent through popular messaging and social media platforms.

Highlighting this growing risk, Airtel stated that digital platforms have become widespread across the country, exposing millions of users to potential threats. The telco warned that online frauds have evolved beyond simple call-based scams, posing a serious risk to consumers’ personal and financial data.

AI-Based Threat Detection for Seamless Protection

Airtel’s new solution is powered by AI-driven threat detection technology. The system uses a multi-layered intelligence platform that performs domain filtering and blocks malicious links across all devices and platforms in real time.

If a user tries to access a flagged website, the system automatically blocks the page from loading and redirects the user to a secure notification page explaining the reason for the block. This ensures transparency and instant protection.

According to Airtel, the tool scans internet traffic using real-time intelligence, cross-checks with global threat databases and Airtel’s own repository of suspicious domains to prevent access to scam websites.

Free for Airtel Mobile and Broadband Users

One of the most significant aspects of this service is that it will be auto-enabled for all Airtel mobile and broadband users at no extra cost. Customers will not need to manually activate the service, ensuring instant and seamless protection across all their internet-connected devices.

This frictionless implementation will ensure that even users with limited digital literacy remain protected from evolving cyber threats.

Statement from Airtel Leadership

Gopal Vittal, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Bharti Airtel, emphasized the telco’s commitment to digital safety. He said:

“Over the last few years, we’ve seen customers fall victim to fraudsters using increasingly sophisticated methods. Our engineers have developed this Fraud Detection Solution to help customers browse the internet with peace of mind.”

He added that the AI-based system had undergone six months of rigorous testing, during which it reached an impressive level of accuracy in detecting malicious domains.

Continuous Efforts to Combat Spam and Scam

This latest solution is part of Airtel’s broader efforts to tackle spam and fraud on its networks. The company previously launched initiatives to combat unwanted calls and SMS spam, and this launch marks a significant expansion into web and OTT platform security.

Airtel reiterated its commitment to relentless innovation and vigilance, stating that it will continue refining its fraud detection systems until its networks are fully secure against digital threats.
