News Synopsis

Eternal, formerly known as Zomato, has announced that Aditya Mangla has been appointed as the new CEO of its food ordering and delivery business and designated as Senior Management Personnel (SMP). This leadership change was approved by the company’s board of directors on July 6, 2025, and Mangla will serve a two-year term.

Rakesh Ranjan Steps Down After Two-Year Tenure

Mangla will be taking over from Rakesh Ranjan, who has completed his two-year tenure as CEO of the food ordering and delivery division. Eternal officially communicated to the stock exchanges that Ranjan will cease to be an SMP effective July 6, 2025.

Leadership Philosophy: Seeing Beyond the Obvious

In an internal email addressed to employees, Eternal’s Founder and CEO Deepinder Goyal praised Mangla’s leadership style and explained the intent behind the appointment:

“This isn’t just a change of roles. It’s a signal for the kind of leadership we need as we move into our next chapter. Leadership is not just about knowing what to do. It’s about learning how to see. Seeing the invisible cause and effect.”

“We need leaders who listen not to reply, but to understand.”

Who is Aditya Mangla?

Current Role and Contributions at Eternal

Before his elevation, Aditya Mangla served as the Head of Product for the food delivery division at Eternal. He has been an integral part of the company since March 2021, having held several leadership positions such as Head of Supply and Head of Customer Experience. In these roles, he focused on enhancing restaurant partner efficiency and improving customer satisfaction across digital channels.

“Aditya has also been one of the few leaders in the food delivery team who regularly runs into disagreements and pushes back with me. And I deeply value that,” Goyal noted in the internal memo.

Educational Background and Previous Roles

Mangla holds a Post Graduate Programme in Management from the Indian School of Business (ISB), where he was a Torchbearer Awardee. He also earned a Master’s in Information Networking from Carnegie Mellon University, and an undergraduate degree in IT engineering from Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology (NSIT).

Before joining Eternal, he held senior-level roles across startups and tech-driven companies, managing P&L, product, and marketing functions.

“We don’t need more people who agree with everything... That’s the kind of leader I aspire to be,” Goyal wrote, emphasizing Mangla’s collaborative yet assertive leadership.

Conclusion: A Strategic Shift in Zomato’s Leadership Journey

The appointment of Aditya Mangla as the CEO of Eternal’s (formerly Zomato) food ordering and delivery business marks a pivotal moment in the company’s leadership evolution. This transition not only underscores Eternal’s faith in nurturing in-house talent but also reflects its strategic emphasis on continuity, innovation, and sustainable growth.

Mangla’s journey within the organization—spanning roles such as Head of Supply, Head of Customer Experience, and Head of Product—demonstrates a deep-rooted understanding of the business and its operational nuances. His data-driven approach, coupled with a willingness to challenge ideas and engage in constructive debate, aligns with the company’s evolving leadership ethos.

As Eternal enters a new phase of competitive expansion in India’s dynamic food delivery sector, this leadership change is expected to inject fresh energy, strengthen customer focus, and enhance executional excellence. The handover from Rakesh Ranjan to Mangla signals not just a role change, but a reimagined vision for future growth.
