News Synopsis

The first-ever dual-mode vehicle of the world is ready to hit the roads and rails of Kaiyo in Japan’s Tokushima prefecture. The dual-mode vehicle is like a minibus and runs of normal tires on the road and it gets steel wheels to descend from its underbelly on the rail track turning it into a train carriage.

Shigeki Miura, the CEO of Asa Coast Railway company has said that these vehicles can be helpful for small towns like Kaiyo, where local transport companies struggle to make a profit. It can be helpful for locals as a bus and can also be used to carry the passengers as a train.

It can carry up to 21 passengers at a time and runs at a speed of 60km/h on the rail track and 100km/h on public roads. The CEO of Asa Coast has also said that they hope to encourage people around Japan to visit the town with the help of this project.
